San Diego, CA, June 12, 2018 – Verance Corporation today announced it will further increase its Asia-Pacific presence, naming television industry innovator Heeyong Park as its Korea Country Manager.  In this role, Heeyong will work directly with the world’s leading electronics manufacturers, including Samsung and LG, on the Verance® Aspect audio watermark.

Selected by the Advanced Television Systems Committee as part of the ATSC 3.0 Standard, the Aspect open watermark technology enables broadcasters to develop and accelerate the delivery of leading Next Gen TV features across all ATSC 3.0 and ATSC 1.0 devices and distribution paths, including OTA, OTT and MVPD transmissions.

According to recent Next Gen TV studies, consumers want more convenience and control over their viewing experiences and are willing to accelerate their purchase timelines, as well as pay an average of $205 more, to obtain many Next Gen TV features, according to research firm SmithGeiger.

Additionally, the studies indicate that Personalized Audio Experiences are among the most popular Next Gen features favored by consumers.  During April’s NAB Show, Verance showcased a number of these experiences including Dialogue Enhancement (bringing dialogue forward and minimizing background sounds); Audio Replacement (allowing viewers to select from hundreds of languages including visual description); and Alternative Commentary (permitting viewers to select hometown announcers during live sports and/or director’s cuts).

“In addition to satisfying the needs of television viewers, these experiences drive sales for television manufacturers and create new revenue opportunities for broadcasters. It’s a win-win-win for all,” said Verance CEO, Nil Shah.

In leading Verance’s relationships with the top Korean manufacturers, Heeyong will rely on his vast electronics industry experience where he most recently served as a key contributor in Strategic Partnerships at Samsung Electronics.

At Samsung, Heeyong managed and led deals with metadata solution providers including TiVo and Nielsen (Gracenote) for global smart TV video and music services, as well as partnerships with service partners such as Google, Spotify and Reuters.  Earlier, he served on Samsung’s product strategy team for smart TV and IoT, developing and executing global smart TV strategy and customization throughout North America, Europe and emerging nations.  He also played an integral role in projects involving TV-dedicated tablets and 3D technologies.
