Verance Corporation Honored with High Tech Innovation Award
Award recognizes company's leadership in audio watermark solutions
October 30, 2007
- Verance Corporation, a developer of audio watermark technology and solutions, was honored with an innovation award in technology/IT services at the 14th annual AeA High Tech Awards in San Diego. The award was presented at a luncheon held at the Hilton Torrey Pines in San Diego on October 19 with an audience of more than 600 technology executives.
The AeA High Tech Awards is a premier technology event that celebrates the achievements of successful technology companies in the greater San Diego area. Winners were selected based on the company's competitive advantages, market need and market potential, technological breakthroughs achieved and contributions to the San Diego regional technology industry. Judges for the award are comprised of last year's AeA High Tech Award winners and organization sponsors.
"Verance is very deserving of this award. The company has an exciting digital watermark technology, a stellar team and has been growing its base of customers rapidly," said Kevin Carroll, executive director, AeA San Diego Council. "Verance is a prime example of the innovative and dynamic technology companies in San Diego. We congratulate Verance on being recognized for its foresight and talent in developing pioneering technologies."
The Verance watermark technology recognized by AeA, called VCMS/AV, is a content protection technology that provides anti-piracy safeguards for filmed entertainment across multiple release windows and distribution formats. It enables information identifying permitted uses of content to be inaudibly embedded as a persistent digital watermark that can be reliably read and responded to by home theater equipment, mobile entertainment devices and personal computers. VCMS/AV technology has been selected for inclusion in future Blu-ray and HD DVD players by AACS LA, LLC (www.aacsla.com), the cross-industry consortium that is providing the content protection architecture for use in next-generation optical media formats.
Upon receiving the award, Nil Shah, Verance's chief executive commented, "Verance is honored to receive this prestigious award from such a well-respected organization as the AeA. The availability of effective and unobtrusive safeguards against digital piracy offers benefits for industry and consumers by supporting the growth of new, compelling entertainment formats. We are extremely gratified to have our work facilitate the growth of digital media recognized by the San Diego technology community."
Verance released its VCMS/AV technical specifications for the Blu-ray and HD DVD formats in June 2007 and is currently offering licenses to owners, distributors, and producers of content as well as manufacturers of Blu-ray and HD DVD players and components. Current licensees include Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Studios, and Microsoft. More information on the Verance watermark technology is available at http://www.verance.com/vcms.
